Finals Week

Finals are here; make sure you prepare yourself by coming to the library during it’s open hours this week. Hours are Monday & Tuesday 7:30 a.m. - 11:00 p.m., 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Finally on Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Have a great holiday.

My experience at McCook Community College has been a great experience over the past two years. I have been involved with five extracurricular activities; which include GSA (Gay Straight Alliance), PBL (Phi Beta Lambda), PTK (Phi Theta Kappa), SMAC (Student’s Making Active Choices), and Student Senate. Not to mention I have gotten involved with music this year; Choir and Band. Things get pretty hectic around campus when involved so much and taking seven classes all at the same time. Everyone is more than happy to help out with homework or if you have a bad day just openly talk about it.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back everyone to another exciting, fun-filled semester at McCook Community College.  We have had several new faces join us this past year and many long-time returning staff and faculty have returned to campus.  The dorms are full and the athletic teams have begun their seasons for the Fall.

Welcome to new Vice President Andrew Long.  Mr. Long is a Nebraska native and returns home after a stint working in community colleges in Colorado.  Everyone please say "Hi" and make Mr. Long feel welcome. I am sure he is exhausted after helping with move in day at the dorms and Orientation Day on Monday.

We look forward to a wonderful 2013-14 school year.

Snow, Illness and Injury.

It has been a while since our last post due to illness, injury and weather.  As things go in Nebraska, this is not unusual.  The amount of snow we have been getting is definitely unique to the past few years.  Living in Nebraska my whole life, I have not seen snow like this in many years.  It brought back memories of being a small child waking up to 2 feet of snow and building igloos and snow forts.  Although the snow causes problems and travel difficulties, it can be pleasant and enjoyable for children.  Now that I am older, I can't say with such fervor that I enjoy this wet, thick, slick substance as much as I used to.

As for the illness and injury, it seems that everywhere I look, someone is down and out with fever, sore throat, nausea or stomach illness.  If they are not ill, they are getting injured.  It has been quite a month for our students and staff, and I am hoping our 4 day weekend will lead to better health for all.

As for our local sports teams, they have all been very active.  If you have a chance to check out your campus email account, look for the sports updates from Kellen Fernetti.  He has been doing a wonderful job with pre-game write-ups and post-game follow-up.

Spring 2013 New Semester

Welcome back fellow MCC students! With the new year and fresh semester, it is not hard to be enthused about what is ahead. Let us make this spring term all that we are hoping it to be, academically and otherwise. If you have any problems with your schedules, the admissions office is always there to help. If you would like to withdraw from any classes you have until April 26. Make sure you are taking what you need and what you want. McCook Community College has a lot to offer for students in the now present 2013! Here is quote that is something I believe we can all ponder on as we start this new beginning,

"The first problem for all of us, men and women, is not to learn, but to unlearn." Gloria Steinem.
